Oil Tempered Chrome Silicon – Commercial Spring Quality
ASTM-A-401
What is Chrome Silicon Wire?
This material is designed for springs used for high impact, high shock load, and moderately high temperature applications. Chrome silicon can be used at temperatures up to 50°F higher than chrome vanadium.
How is it Heat Treated?
Recommendations for heat treatment: Immediately after coiling, the springs should be stress relieved at about 400°C (750°F) for 30 minutes. After shot peening, the springs should be stress relieved at about 250°C (480°F) for 30 minutes. The presence of chromium in the alloy increases the hardness of the material and improves its tensile strength.
