Oil Tempered Chrome Silicon – Commercial Spring Quality
ASTM-A-401
This material is designed for springs used for high impact, high shock load, and moderately high temperature applications. Chrome silicon can be used at temperatures up to 50°F higher than chrome vanadium. Recommendations for heat treatment: Immediately after coiling, the springs should be stress relieved at about 400°C (750°F) for 30 minutes. After shot peening, the springs should be stress relieved at about 250°C (480°F) for 30 minutes. The presence of chromium in the alloy increases the hardness of the material and improves its tensile strength.
